Singapore students will be taking the British-based “O” Level Maths exams and here are 8 must-know concepts.
During covid’s circuit breaker, 2 to 3 batches of students were not tested on this and now vectors is back again.
Things like position, column vectors, magnitude of a vector, parallel and collinear vectors and not forgetting, geometrical vectors where comparing areas with common height, similar shapes becomes important.
Take note that this can be mixed with other topics like Set Language and Notation, Venn Diagrams, Algebraic Simplification.
You can be tested on the following skills.
Factorisation, expansion, simplification, indices, inequalities, solving both linear and Quadratic Equations
for Quadratic equations, you can solve them by
(i) Factorising,
(ii) CTS,
(iii) Quadratic Formula,
(iv) use calculator to check
(v) drawing graphs.
note that some Equations cannot be solved meaning there are no x-intercepts.
We have RAT(right angled triangle) – Pythagoras theorem, TOA CAH SOH
NRAT (non right Angled triangle) – Sine and Cosine rules
Applications of trigo
– 3d trigo
– Bearings with Angles of elevation and depression.
Note to multiply Matrices that the column of first matrix must the same as row of 2nd matrix. Orders of Matrices become important
This is where students connect what they have learnt in Maths lessons to real-world scenarios.
Last but definitely not the least, volume and surface area questions. Know the difference between regular and irregular shapes plus your formulas. Similar figures can be tested here too.
